SAP statement on German patent ruling concerning SAP Signavio Process Intelligence

October 2026

The Munich Regional Court has issued an injunction concerning a minor query engine function within SAP Signavio Process Intelligence. The injunction applies only to implementations of the specific function in Germany.

Scope and impact

The ruling concerns a specific SAP Signavio Process Intelligence function that calculates the time between process events (“net throughput time”) linked to a simple business calendar. SAP S/4HANA Cloud migrations are not affected in any way by this recent court ruling.

Supporting customers

SAP’s priority is to safeguard continuity and full value for customers. SAP Signavio Process Intelligence remains available to all customers. SAP has implemented a product update to maintain the usage of the affected functionality in line with the court ruling. No impact on customers is expected.

SAP’s position and next steps

SAP respectfully disagrees with the Munich court's ruling and has appealed the decision. SAP has separately challenged the validity of the asserted patent before the Federal Patent Court. The Munich court's decision represents only one of several ongoing disputes between SAP and Celonis, including patent actions brought by SAP in Germany and the United States. SAP will address all related matters through the appropriate legal channels.
